Vivian Milius
Madison Library District Children’s Librarian
December 28, 1952 – May 25, 2019
Our dear friend and beloved colleague, Vivian Milius, passed away May 25 from pancreatic cancer. She has been our Children’s Librarian for over 12 years. Her encyclopedic knowledge of Children’s Literature and her abilities in Reader’s Advisory were unmatched. She had the ability to help even the most reluctant reader become a lover of books. She looked forward to every story time and craft activity and enjoyed sharing time with the children of our community, as well as with their parents.
In addition to her extensive knowledge of Children’s Literature, Vivian was also widely read in books for all age groups, and of all genres. She was a film buff, and loved classic films, musicals, foreign films and small art house movies. The depth and breadth of her knowledge is reflected not only in the Children’s section of the library, which she completely overhauled, but in the adult collections and DVDs as well.
At this time, we would like to express our appreciation for the outpouring of support we have received from our patrons. We know Vivian’s humor and wisdom touched hundreds of lives in our community. She is and always will be a cherished member of our library family, and will be greatly missed.
Vivian will be greatly missed. There will definitely be an empty spot in the library without her! Many many years of children’s storytimes that will be forever remembered. She was always happy, always helpful and always kind!
I appreciated Vivian and her friendly, helpful ways. I am sorry to hear of her demise and will miss her there at the library.
We will miss Vivian at the library and during story time. She was a wonderful lady.
