2. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling
It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.
While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
book 8 in the Harry Potter series
Ratings and Reviews from the Librarians
Miranda rated it ★★★★ and said “Overall, I really did enjoy this one…”
Bekka rated it ★★★★ and said “A great addition to the series! Its really fun to revisit characters that are so well known and beloved. I think the suspense and scary aspects were very well done. Having it be a play was a tiny bit disappointing, just because I would have enjoyed the fuller story that you get with a novel. This would sure be fun to see on stage, though! A must read for any Harry Potter fan!”
Amy rated it ★★★★ and said “I was really hesitant to start this book (like, REEAAAALLLLLY hesitant). I was worried it wouldn’t “fit” in the HP world. I was pleasantly surprised. It did have some, for lack of a better word, “sequel-itis” to it but seeing as how it is meant for the stage I understand it was needed to bring things back to help the audience be more engrossed. It was a bit predictable, but entertaining and really enjoyed being with Harry and the gang again.”
3. The Crown by Kiera Cass
When Eadlyn became the first princess of Illéa to hold her own Selection, she didn’t think she would fall in love with any of her thirty-five suitors. She spent the first few weeks of the competition counting down the days until she could send them all home. But as events at the palace force Eadlyn even further into the spotlight, she realizes that she might not be content remaining alone.
Eadlyn still isn’t sure she’ll find the fairytale ending her parents did twenty years ago. But sometimes the heart has a way of surprising you…and soon Eadlyn must make a choice that feels more impossible—and more important—than she ever imagined.
book 5 in The Selection series

Vivian rated it ★★★★ and said “For a satisfying ending to this series of 5 (and then some), 4 stars.
There were a lot of loose ends to tie up and some messes to clean up, a few surprises, but all-in-all the princess conducted herself well and pulled it off.”
Patty rated it ★★★★★.

But the witch in the forest, Xan, is kind and gentle. She shares her home with a wise Swamp Monster named Glerk and a Perfectly Tiny Dragon, Fyrian. Xan rescues the abandoned children and delivers them to welcoming families on the other side of the forest, nourishing the babies with starlight on the journey.
One year, Xan accidentally feeds a baby moonlight instead of starlight, filling the ordinary child with extraordinary magic. Xan decides she must raise this enmagicked girl, whom she calls Luna, as her own. To keep young Luna safe from her own unwieldy power, Xan locks her magic deep inside her. When Luna approaches her thirteenth birthday, her magic begins to emerge on schedule — but Xan is far away. Meanwhile, a young man from the Protectorate is determined to free his people by killing the witch. Soon, it is up to Luna to protect those who have protected her — even if it means the end of the loving, safe world she’s always known.
Newbery Medal 2017
Ratings and Reviews from the Librarians
Bekka rated it ★★★★★ and said “What an absolutely beautiful book!! I thoroughly enjoyed this fantasy for kids. It has so many lovely moments, even in the hardships that the characters face. I LOVED the witch, Xan, and how her storyline develops through the course of the book. Antain is fantastic! Such a great character! And of course Luna – she is the star and main character. Her growth is fun and tragic and lovely and heartbreaking. Glerk and Fyrian are both very memorable and great friends throughout the book. This is a modern classic that will stand the test of time, and a very well deserved Newbery winner!”

Ratings and Reviews from the Librarians
Lorna rated it ★★★★ and said “I quite enjoyed this one. The romance was nice and the main character, Kahlen, was a lovely girl, or I guess I should say siren. She was beautiful inside and out because she was so caring and unselfish. It was interesting to have the ocean be one of the main characters. Love is what this book is all about – not only romantic love, but love for family and close friends as well.”

book 3 in The Reckoners series
Ratings and Reviews from the Librarians
Emily rated it ★★★★★ and said “Waaaaaaa!!!! What a ride! I find myself hoping that there’s more to come, as it ended on something of a cliffhanger, but in reality, the most important things have been wrapped up. Such a great series! I’m excited to get into more of Sanderson’s writing.”
Miranda rated it ★★★★ and said “This was a great wrap-up to the trilogy. There was plenty of action and the technology, fighting, and escape tactics were well written. David and Megan have an interesting relationship, but it works for this story. The big twist in the end as David is able to talk to Firefight and learn more about how powers work was well done. Everything was tied up nice and neat with all of the loose ends explained. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.”
Hayden rated it ★★★★★.

Ratings and Reviews from the Librarians
Emily rated it ★★★★★ and said “I have no words for how broken I am right now, and this book is to blame. I loved it.”
Miranda rated it ★★★★ and said “This took me a little bit to get into, but then the characters were there and doing their thing. This continues on from the last book, and I had a struggle trying to remember exactly what was happening, but the first few chapters helped to bring it all back fairly quickly. Kaz and Inej’s growth as individuals and as a couple really set the tone for the rest of the story.”

Passenger by Alexandra Bracken
It starts with a cry in the night.
Becket, walking her dog one winter evening, fears it’s an abandoned baby left out in the cold. But it is something else—something evil—and it tricks Becket into opening a doorway to another realm, letting a darkness into our world, a corruption that begins transforming Philadelphia into a sinister and menacing version of itself…but only at night.
The changes are subtle at first, causing Becket to doubt her senses and her sanity. But soon the nightmarish truth is impossible to deny: By day, the city is just a city, but at night it literally comes alive with malevolent purpose. Brick and steel become bone, streetlights turn into gallows, and hungry alleys wait to snare mortal victims. Terrified citizens huddle indoors after dusk, as others succumb to the siren song of the night, letting their darker sides run wild.
Once, Becket’s biggest problems were living up to her police commissioner father’s high expectations and a secret crush on her best friend’s boyfriend. Now she must find a way to survive and protect her loved ones…before the darkness takes her as well.

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

A talented baker, all she wants is to open a shop with her best friend. But according to her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for the young woman who could be the next queen.
Then Cath meets Jest, the handsome and mysterious court joker. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the king and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into an intense, secret courtship. Cath is determined to define her own destiny and fall in love on her terms. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.
In her first stand-alone teen novel, the New York Times-bestselling author dazzles us with a prequel to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Ratings and Reviews from the Librarians
Miranda rated it ★★★★ and said “First off – MARISSA MEYER! I don’t know that she can go wrong. Definitely a great new read for her fans, and a new take on a new tale. The magic of Alice is found in this book, but it takes form in its own way, shaping the characters and the storyline as it goes. Meyer is a master at creating in-depth characters and settings that bring her stories to life. It was so easy to see the different scenes, including the magical tea party Cath attends. Cath is such a strong heroine, complete in her own right, and her relationship with her friends shows what she values. I loved the glimpses into the world of Alice, while still maintaining a unique tale full of intrigue and danger. This seems to be a standalone title, though I’m sure we would all be willing to read more of Cath’s story. Recommended for fans of Meyer’s other works and other retold tales.”
Natalie rated it ★★★★ and said “Heartless shook me up. Marissa Meyer did a great job recreating Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland and all of his characters. I loved all the characters: Jest, Catherine, Hatta, and Mary Ann. I was sucked into Wonderland and couldn’t get out until I finished the book. It was an emotionally draining book. I felt like I was with Catherine every step of the way, and felt every emotion with her. I desperately rooted for her every step of the way.”
Amy rated it ★★★★.”

Ratings and Reviews from the Librarians
Rebekah rated it ★★★★★ and said “I truly loved every bit of this. Everything Marissa Meyer contributes to the world of Cinder just makes me love it more. I especially love how individual and three-dimensional all of her characters are. None of them feel like carbon copies or flat archetypes. A particular favorite story in here was “The Little Android.” Absolutely brilliant and clever and poignant!.”

But no one gets what they want just by wishing.
As the war intensifies, both Kestrel and Arin discover that the world is changing. The East is pitted against the West, and they are caught in between. With so much to lose, can anybody really win?

But beneath these riddles lies one truth: Cassie has been betrayed. So has Ringer. Zombie. Nugget. And all 7.5 billion people who used to live on our planet. Betrayed first by the Others, and now by ourselves.
In these last days, Earth’s remaining survivors will need to decide what’s more important: saving themselves…or saving what makes us human.
