December 2024 Programs for All Ages

Winter Safe Driving

First time driving on snowy winter roads? Madison Library District is partnering with the Idaho Department of Transportation and the Idaho State Police to keep you safe this winter! Learn strategies to stay on the road, deal with slipping and sliding, regulate speed, and how to drive around a snowplow. Join us Wednesday, December 4th at 6:30 PM in our Community Room.

This program is designed for drivers of all ages and skill levels, but best for young drivers and anyone new to our area. Ages 14+ are welcome to come learn and ask questions!

Christmas Extravaganza!

Come one, come all to Madison Library District’s Christmas Extravaganza: “I’ll be ‘Gnome’ for Christmas!” Grab your longest beard and tallest hat for a gnometastic evening of Christmas fun! Make a craft fit for a gnome, listen to stories, and enjoy a snack with a hat. It’s going to be a cozy and fun evening filled with laughter and cheer.

And what’s a Christmas celebration without Santa Claus? Get ready for a special visit from Santa himself starting at 4:30 PM. Make sure you’re there to greet him and share your Christmas wishes! Bring your camera for photo opportunities!

Save the Date: Monday, December 9 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the Community Room

Fun for the whole family! Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Armchair Traveler Challenge

Have you ever wanted to travel to all 50 states? It’s not too late to complete your epic journey with us as we visit each great state of our nation. Armchair travelers will read one book set in each state, earning state stickers and opportunities to enter the final drawing for our grand prizes. Any reader who joins us for even a portion of the trip will have the opportunity to earn small prizes along the way. Each reader who completes the journey will earn a special travel bag commemorating their travels. See more details here:

Dungeons & Dragons

Calling all teen adventurers! Join us for Dungeons & Dragons on Fridays, September 13 & 27 at 3:30 PM in the Community Room. Whether you’re a seasoned hero or a curious beginner, this classic role-playing game lets you create your own character, choose your story path, and roll the dice to determine your fate!

Calling all teen wizards and witches! Join us on Wednesday, September 18 at 4 PM in the Community Room for a special Cook With a Book event! We’ll be diving into the enchanting world of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and whipping up some of Harry’s favorite treats—delicious pumpkin pasties and frothy butterbeer!

Summer Reading 2024

Adventure Begins at Your Library with Summer Reading 2024! This annual program is designed for all ages to read every day, participate in special Library programs, and keep smashing our reading goals! Calling all adventurers! Join us for Teen Dungeons & Dragons on Friday, March 15th at 3:30 PM! Embark on an epic journey where you create your own character, shape the story, and roll the dice to determine your fate. This event welcomes all teens aged 12-18, whether you’re a seasoned hero or new to the realm! Dive into a 1-2 hour session for first level characters (with leveling opportunities between sessions). Feel free to bring your own character or choose from our pre-made ones. Remember, all characters should be crafted using resources from the core 5th Edition player’s handbook. Get ready to Cook With a Book! Join us on Wednesday, March 20th at 4:30 PM when we’ll be delving into the world of The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall while whipping up some scrumptious chocolate chip cookies! Spring Teen Writing Contest

Hey teens ages 12-18: Do you love writing? Are you dreaming of gardens in the summer? Enter our Teen Writing Contest! Let Claude Monet’s enchanting “Bridge over a Pond of Water Lilies” inspire your creativity. Craft your tale for a chance to win exciting prizes, including a $30 Barnes & Noble gift card or a classic feather quill pen and ink set. All participants receive a prize, so don’t miss out! Story Time

Join us in March for a world of imagination and learning at Story Time! This month we’re celebrating author-illustrator, Eric Carle!

Preschool Story Time (ages 2-5): Tuesdays & Wednesdays at 10:30 AM and Tuesdays at 6:30 PM.

Toddler Time (ages 10-23 months): Mondays & Tuesdays at 9:30 AM.

Book Babies (ages 0-9 months): Wednesdays at 9:30 AM.

On January 4, create a masterpiece with black glue art, and on January 18, shrink it down with some awesome Shrinky-Dinks! Chess & Game Club + Pirate Dice Tournament

Join the Chess & Game Club for ages 9-18 Mondays at 4:30 PM in the Community Room! On January 8 and 22, engage in strategic battles and game adventures. But mark your calendars for January 29 – it’s time to set sail for a Pirate Dice Tournament! Dress like a pirate, talk like a pirate, and feast on pirate snacks as you compete for the ultimate booty in a swashbuckling afternoon of fun!

Young League of Writers

Dungeons & Dragons

Calling all young adventurers! Join us for an epic journey at Teen Dungeons & Dragons on Fridays, January 12 & 26 at 3:30 PM in the Community Room. Whether you’re a seasoned dungeon crawler or a newbie explorer, we welcome ages 12-18 to embark on a quest of imagination and fun. On January 12, we will learn how to create your own character, participate in a campaign, and discover the beginnings of becoming a Dungeon Master. Make sure you sign up for our Teen Discord Server where we’ve posted preparation details. With a character created, use your new skills in a live campaign on January 26. Don’t miss out on this magical adventure!

LEGO Club

Do you love LEGOs? Join other kids who love the ever popular bricks at the Library’s LEGO Club! Meet us in the Community Room on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 4:00 PM to craft a Jurassic masterpiece with LEGO dinos.

For ages 6-18. Those under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.

Cook With A Book

Whip up a literary feast at Teen Cook With a Book! Join us on January 17 at 4:30 PM in the Community Room Kitchen as we make German apple strudel and delve into Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief.
