Story Time

January Story Time is serving up something soup-er!

Book Babies (infants/babies not yet walking and their caregivers) meet Wednesdays at 9:30 AM with songs, stories, and sensory fun for our “Soup’s On!” theme. (Library Closed Jan. 1)

Toddler Time (walking toddlers and their caregivers) meets Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:30 AM for more “Soup’s On!” adventures with your little ones. (No Toddler Time Jan. 20 – Library Closed)

Story Time (ages 2-5 years) meets Tuesdays at 10:30 AM and 6:30 PM, and Wednesdays at 10:30 AM to explore the letter ‘S’ through these fun themes:

Jan. 7-8: Soup’s On!
Jan. 14-15: Swimming with Sharks
Jan. 21-22: Simon Says
Jan. 28-29: Lunar New Year of the Snake

La Hora del Cuento en Español para niños de 2 a 5 años se reúne los lunes a las 10:30 a. m. para explorar la letra ‘S’ a través de estos divertidos temas:

6 de enero: ¡La sopa está lista!
13 de enero: ¡Nada con tiburones!
20 de enero: No habrá hora de cuentos (la biblioteca estará cerrada).
27 de enero: Serpiente del Año Nuevo Lunar

All children should be accompanied by an adult. Join us in the Community Room for stories, songs, and so much fun!

Chess & Game Club

Learn the art of chess and other games with the master of fun and strategy, Nick Allison. Tweens and teens ages 9-18 are welcome to join every Monday* from 4:30-5:30 PM in the Community Room. Game supplies will be provided.

*There will be no Chess and Game Club on January 20 due to our Martin Luther King Jr. Day Closure.

Great Reads for Girls

Great Reads for Girls is meeting on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 6:30 PM in the Community Room for girls ages 8-11! This month, we’ll be reading and discussing When You Trap a Tiger by Tae Keller, a magical and heartfelt story about family, courage, and the power of storytelling. Grab a parent or guardian and join us for a fun discussion, crafts, and great treats!

Family Friendly Films

Looking for a fun movie afternoon on the big screen? Join us for Free Family Friendly Films on Fridays at 3:30 PM in the Community Room! We’ve got new releases and beloved classics lined up:

Jan. 24: The Wild Robot (PG)

This month, we’ll be reading and discussing A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, a moving story about courage, survival, and hope. Armchair Traveler Challenge: Apprentice Artist

Reading can inspire creativity and we are painting a masterpiece! Take an epic journey with us this year as we explore the world of art, from color and style to history and industry. Armchair travelers will read books to create a portfolio of canvases that earn them opportunities to enter the final drawing for our grand prizes. December 2024 Programs for All Ages

Winter Safe Driving

First time driving on snowy winter roads? Madison Library District is partnering with the Idaho Department of Transportation and the Idaho State Police to keep you safe this winter! Learn strategies to stay on the road, deal with slipping and sliding, regulate speed, and how to drive around a snowplow. Join us Wednesday, December 4th at 6:30 PM in our Community Room.

This program is designed for drivers of all ages and skill levels, but best for young drivers and anyone new to our area. Ages 14+ are welcome to come learn and ask questions!

Christmas Extravaganza!

Come one, come all to Madison Library District’s Christmas Extravaganza: “I’ll be ‘Gnome’ for Christmas!” Grab your longest beard and tallest hat for a gnometastic evening of Christmas fun! Make a craft fit for a gnome, listen to stories, and enjoy a snack with a hat. It’s going to be a cozy and fun evening filled with laughter and cheer.

And what’s a Christmas celebration without Santa Claus? Get ready for a special visit from Santa himself starting at 4:30 PM. Make sure you’re there to greet him and share your Christmas wishes! Bring your camera for photo opportunities!

Save the Date: Monday, December 9 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the Community Room

Armchair Traveler Challenge

Have you ever wanted to travel to all 50 states? It’s not too late to complete your epic journey with us as we visit each great state of our nation. Armchair travelers will read one book set in each state, earning state stickers and opportunities to enter the final drawing for our grand prizes. Any reader who joins us for even a portion of the trip will have the opportunity to earn small prizes along the way. Idaho Teen Reading Challenge

Teens ages 12-18—are you ready for the Idaho Teen Reading Challenge? Sign up today at Madison Library District, Madison Jr. High Library, Madison High School Library, or online with the Beanstack app!

Read 8 books from 10 different categories and track your progress on Beanstack or with paper trackers, journals, or bookmarks available at all three libraries. For every book you finish, grab a prize at the Circulation desk or during visiting librarian days at your school library!

Complete the challenge by May 1 to be entered into a drawing for a $30 gift card AND help your library earn books! Let’s get reading!

Short Story Contest: “Oh the Places You’ll Go!”

Attention all writers aged 18 and up! Are you passionate about storytelling? Then seize the opportunity to enter Madison Library District’s Short Story Contest!

We are accepting submissions from June 3rd to June 28th. The theme? “Oh, the places you’ll go!” Based on the infamous Dr. Seuss tale of facing life’s ups and downs, tell us a story of the places you’ll go, whether fiction or non-fiction.

The grand prize? A $100 Barnes & Noble gift card! The winning entry will be announced on Friday, July 26th and showcased in our August newsletter.
