“The Rose Legacy” by Jessica Day George

Anthea is a poor orphan girl who has grown up being passed from relative to relative. When she is forced to move one last time to family she has never heard of, she finds an uncle and cousin who welcome her with open arms. She also discovers a world of wonderful creatures. She also finds that she has a special gift and is able to communicate with the horses in a wonderful Way- they can speak with each other using their minds.

All is not well, though, and when the King discovers that horses still exist, and in order to save them all, Anthea and her cousin Jilly journey to appeal to the Queen.

Full of danger, a cast of well-written characters, a fluffy little owl, and of course horses, this book will be perfect for fans of George’s other middle grade works and any one who loves horses and wishes they could talk.

“Will delight readers who love a classic-feeling fantasy, as well as those who absolutely love horses . . . This thought-provoking fantasy with relatable characters is clever and heartfelt.” – Booklist

Tween Book Clubs are Online This Year!

Tween Book Clubs are Online This Year!

Attention Tweens! Become a SUPER-SONIC reader this year!

Join us at the kick-off meeting for the Books for Boys Book Club and the Mother Daughter Book Club on Thursday, September 13, 2018 @ 6:30 p.m. where you will receive your official super-sonic lanyard, as well as all the instructions you’ll need to play online!

You can win prizes and pins for your lanyard by earning book points for every book club book you read and by completing three extra challenges that match it.

Those three challenges are:
  • Write and submit a book review.
  • Attend the Book Club meeting for that book.
  • Complete the FUN activity that matches the book for that month.
Also as an added bonus, you can earn another book point if your parent/guardian reads the book, too!

If you read all the books and earn at least 28 book points, you are eligible to become a super-sonic reader and will receive a special prize at our final Tween Book Club meeting on May 9, 2019! So let’s take off, start reading, and have a blast!

Sign up for your online challenge by clicking the banner for your Book Club!

If you played our online version of Summer Reading, you can use the same login you created then.

Introducing the Lucky Day Collection

Introducing the Lucky Day Collection

We’re excited to introduce a new collection to our library: The Lucky Day Collection!

To better serve our patrons, we’ve purchased extra copies of our most popular titles.  Items in the Lucky Day Collection have different rules than the regular collection.

Books:

  • 7 Day Checkout
  • 20¢ per day late fee

DVDs:

  • 2 Day Checkout
  • $1 per day late fee

Items in the Lucky Day Collection cannot be requested (placed on hold) and they cannot be renewed.

Don’t take your Lucky Day item on vacation!  If you get a Lucky Day item, please read or watch it quickly, and return it for the next patron to enjoy.

Also, if you’ve requested a book or movie, but were able to get it as a Lucky Day item, please cancel that request so others won’t have to wait as long.  You can do this yourself by logging into your account, or talk to a librarian at the Circulation or Reference desk.  We’re always glad to help!

Although you can’t request a Lucky Day item, you can see what is in the collection.  Click on the New Titles tab in the catalog, and choose the Lucky Day Collection link.
