In this classic role-playing game, you create your character, choose how they interact with the story, and use dice to decide the outcomes of your actions. This event is open to all teens (ages 12 to 18). Both beginners and experienced players are welcome.

As an added bonus, players will be able to gain perks for their characters by reading!

The Madison Library District Teen Action Council will meet regularly to provide input for teen events and programs, and provide suggestions for improvements and other aspects of the Library as it relates to teens. 

For Kids ages 6 – 8, Tweens ages 9 – 11, and Teens ages 12 – 18.
Anyone under the age of 12 needs to be accompanied by an adult.

Do you love Legos? Join other kids who love the ever popular bricks at Madison Library District’s LEGO club!

Would you like to share your writing with other teens your age or just make new friends? Join the Young League of Writers for ages 12-18. We will meet for an hour and a half to share what we’ve all been working on and talk about what makes writing great.

For April:

Contests, Camps, & Neanderthals – We will talk about writing contests and camps available to teens. After that, we will go primal and play Poetry for Neanderthals!

Teens ages 12-18 gather together to watch anime favorites, chat about manga, play Japanese card games, sketch your own manga portraits (markers and paper provided), and munch on yummy snacks!

For April:

• April 25: Binge Selections and Chat

For a monthly fee, these services send you a package containing one book and a few treats to go along with it. We are offering a similar service just for teens ages 12 – 18! Best of all, our service is completely FREE!

Here’s how it works:

If you would like to get one of these boxes, you must sign up online before the 25th of the month. Boxes will be available around the 1st of the next month. Each box will contain one surprise book (selected especially for you based on your input) and a few fun surprises.

We will notify you when your box is ready. Boxes can be picked up at the Madison Library District’s Circulation Desk and checked out with your library card. You will have until the 15th of that month to pick up your book box. If you do not pick your box up, you will forfeit your place in the subscription list and must reapply.

When you’re done with your book, please return it to the Library. It will be due back at the Library three weeks after you check it out. The rest of the box’s contents are yours to keep!

Registration is limited to 18 participants each month, but a waiting list will be kept for those interested in joining the program when room allows. Your registration will be valid for 3 months and then must be resubmitted in order to give those on the waiting list an opportunity to use the service.

Madison Library's Year-Long Reading Adventure

For patrons ages 12 and older.
Read fun new books and audiobooks and win stickers and other great prizes!

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Sign up at the Circulation Desk to get your reading log.

Step 2: Read a book set in a state listed in one of the challenges. Read another. And another. You can get a sticker for each state.

Step 3: For every challenge completed, bring your log in to the Circulation Desk for a small prize and an entry for the grand prize final drawing at the end of the year.

Step 4: Keep reading! If you complete your journey across the United States, you'll receive a special travel bag in commemoration of your achievement.

If you finish early, you can obtain an international passport and start your journey around the world, earning extra prizes and entries into the final drawing!

Reading can take you places and we are going on an adventure!

Teens, ages 12-18, are invited to participate in this year’s Teen Reading Challenge, a statewide program from the Idaho Commission for Libraries.

In order to complete the challenge, you must read 8 books in 8 different categories between October 2023 and April 2024. You can choose from the following categories:

• Found while browsing: a book found on your library’s shelves or website
• Judge a Book by its Cover: a book with a cover you like
• One-Word Title: a book with a title that is only one word long
• Read Before You Stream: a book that was turned into a movie or TV series
• Retelling of a Classic: a retelling of a classis story
• Sci-Fi/Fantasy: a science fiction or fantasy book
• True Story: a book based on an actual event or person
• YRCA Nominee: a book nominated for a 2024 Young Reader’s Choice Award
• Your Favorite Genre: any book from your favorite genre
• Free Choice: read whatever you want!

Tracking Progress

Track your challenge progress on the Beanstack website or app. There are also paper tracking sheets, reading journals, and bookmarks available for pick-up at the Madison Library Circulation Desk and the Madison Jr. High Library.

Prizes

Visit the Madison Library District Children’s Reference Desk after each book read for the challenge to receive a small prize! We will also have two larger prize drawings during the challenge. The first drawing will be on February 1, and the more books a teen has read, the more entries they will get into the drawing. The second drawing will take place on May 1 at the end of the challenge for any teens who have read all 8 books.

Teens must be registered in Beanstack to win prizes in the drawings. If you are tracking the challenge on paper outside of Beanstack, please make sure to visit Madison Library District to have your challenge progress entered in Beanstack for a chance to win!
