  • "Terrible Things Could Happen To You" poetry/verse contest
    February 4, 2025

    Feeling inspired by life’s little disasters, or perhaps your imagination runs wild with the worst-case scenarios? Enter our Poetry/Verse Contest and share your creative take on this year’s theme: Terrible Things Could Happen to You! Inspired by our On The Same Page book pick, Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures.

    🖋️ Who can enter?
    Anyone ages 8 and up! Categories:

    • Tween (8-11)
    • Teen (12-17)
    • Adult (18+)

    📅 Key Dates:

    • Entries open: February 3, 2025
    • Entries close: February 24, 2025

    🏆 Winners: One winner per category will be announced February 28, 2025, on Facebook and in our newsletter. Every participant will receive a small gift from the Library.  Winners will get the prize!

    Guidelines:

    • Up to 600 words, written in verse (poetry in any style is welcome).
    • No violent or inappropriate content, please.
    • Participants are allowed to submit up to 3 poems. Please send them together in the same document.
    • Entries must be submitted as a PDF or Word document via email to programs@madisonlib.org with your name, library card number, email, , phone number, and entry title included in the email for the adult participants. Junior participants do not need a library card to enter.

    So sharpen your pencils (or flex those typing fingers), and don’t wait for disaster to strike—submit your entry today! Full contest rules are available at madisonlib.org.

    Calling all adventurers! Dive into a world of imagination, strategy, and camaraderie with our new Dungeons & Dragons program for adults. Whether you're a seasoned Dungeon Master or a curious beginner, this is your chance to embark on epic quests, battle fearsome foes, and shape your own story in the world’s greatest tabletop role-playing game.

    Led by an experienced Dungeon Master, each session will transport you to fantastical realms where the only limit is your creativity. New to D&D? No problem! We'll provide pre-made characters and guidance to get you started on your journey. Come solo or with friends to forge alliances and make memories that will last a lifetime.

    Details:

    • When: 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month, 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

    • Where: Madison Library District Community Room

    • Who Should Attend: Adults ages 18+ who are ready to embark on thrilling adventures, solve mysteries, and conquer dungeons.
